Not sure why it isn't working for you.I don't have 2010 on Windows XP so can't try exactly the same setup as you.If in Excel on Windows 7 I do File Open the xlam workbook containing the code, the Sendkeys operates in the Excel environment and I get the recent files page.Add-ins don't count towards Workbooks.Count, but xlsm files do, so you would need to adjust the code depending on whether you were in xlam or xlsm. (or you could leave the test out - but then if you double-click an Excel file to open it in a new instanceof Excel you would get the recent files page, which I assume you don't want to happen).SendKeys is inherently unreliable so it might fail sometimes (if something other than Excel grabs the keys).I wouldn't expect it to work if you run it manually from within the VB editor.Bill Manville. I've tried every variation I could conceive of (relying on the help files for guidance). I can't get it to work from a VBA script/macro. I started by following your instructionsvery carefully.'

Alt-(f+r)' works from the keyboard. (Both upper and lower case.) Your macro 'RecentFiles' works when I adjust the workbooks.count to reflect my startup. That is, it flashes what I think is a 'file-recent' screen, but IMMEDIATLY returns tothe workbook calling the 'sendkeys', whether or not the workbook closes. The 'sendkeys' command in the sub seems to work,?, but doesn't seem to be sticky. Immediatly after sending the 'keys', Excel returns to the macro: closes the workbook, and the instance of Excel running is unaffected. Evenwhen the second param.

Is 'True'.Among the things I've tried: running the macro in a workbook in my XLSTART folder (both as an.xlam and.xlsm file), as an xlam file in my 'addins' folder, and a couple of variations I can't recall. There seems to be potential in this approach using 'SendKeys', but it isn't working for me yet.If you need/want additional info. On my config, I will by happy to oblige, etc.Sincerly;DennisSomeone must have said somewhere/somewhen that: 'Without 'teachers' like yourself, the rest of us would live our lives in darkness'.Dennis. I've been struggling, for the last few weeks, to track my recent documents. Despite showing 50 recent documents nothing I have created after August 8th this year is showing. The file I have open today shows as recent but it will be missing from the list when I close and open Excel. The same occurs in Word. That being said, recent documents do show in the left hand 'quick access' list.I've checked my advanced settings but can see no reason for this strange cut-off on the 8th of August. Can anyone suggest a way that I can get my recent items back? Short of removing and reinstalling office I'm stumped. Hi Armairtus,Did all files store in local computer? Please go to File- Account and provide the detail version number of Excel you're using:I also suggest you go to File- Options- Advanced- increase number of recent files:I also suggest you open Registry Editor and go to: ComputerHKEYCURRENTUSERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0, please rename the Key 16.0 to 16.0OLD.Then reopen Excel or Word and check the result. Please try these methods and let me know the result, I'm glad to help you.Regards,EmiPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they helped.

Thank you for the response Emi.My files are held both locally and on the network.I am using Office Professional 2016.I had already set my file retention to 50.Finally, I have renamed the suggested registry key.Now that Office has recreated a fresh key I can see none of my recent documents. This has understandably reset all of my Office settings, which is arguably more frustrating than only seeing documents from August 8th.I'm going to revert back to the previous registry key so that I get my old settings back.Thanks,Armaitus. When I reverted back to the original key, I see this:I opened a file from my network share (U drive is mapped to a networked file store) which you can see listed under 'Today' alongside a local file IO have been working on this week.' Yesterday' shows the only other spreadsheet I worked on yesterday and 'This week' shows a file I created on Tuesday.Looking in my 'Pinned' section though, the 2nd sheet down is a document that gets updated regularly - and yet the date/time shows as August 7th.
