I was SO excited for s4 pets, but playing again after being away for a while they’re super annoying. I feel so bad because it’s like my sims cats and a dog but they’re just so needy and I can never tell what’s wrong with them.
I loved them in sims 3 and sims 2, but there’s something about them in 4 that drives me nuts. Does anyone have any positives about it that could help me view them differently?
I want to like them!I also have this weird glitch where I’ll get over 10 different interactions in a row to pet them. I never really enjoyed playing with pets in previous games but I really like them in TS4 for some reason lol. They do require attention but it only starts to become overwhelming when I have more than two dogs in my household (cats tend to be more independent than dogs). If they keep misbehaving (waking you up at night, jumping on counters, playing in puddles, begging for food, barking, etc.), you can teach them not to do these things and they eventually stop. When it comes to taking care of their needs here's what you should keep in mind:. They don't always eat on their own even when their bowl is full. You can click on the bowl to call them.
Cats need a clean litterbox (if your sims are busy buy the self-cleaning one and you're all set). Dogs usually need to potty twice a day. You can teach them to go potty outside on their own, or you can take them on a walk. They need love and attention too. So make sure you pet them from time to time.I was a bit annoyed with them at first too, but things become easier when they stop misbehaving.Edit: I usually take care of my sims 'fun' & 'social' needs by playing with pets.
That way I give them attention and I don't have to watch TV/socialize lol. Saves a lot of time. The hunger glitch is kind of hard to pin down IMO. But not only does testingcheats work to fill the pet's needs, it seems like things are going better for me since I ditched the auto feeder and went with a manual bowl. What kind of food bowl do you have?Although admittedly I'm also playing in a different save now, so maybe that's part of it too:/.

All I remember is that in my old save, Mayor Whiskers died three times in two (IRL) days with the auto feeder, until I started constantly maxing his needs via cheats. It did happen once more after a period of seeming okay and I can't remember if that's because I got lax or not. But the current save now, no cheats, manual bowl = seems okay so far?Touch wood.:. I don’t like them much in 4, but I also didn’t like them much in 3, where you had to micromanage them because they were too dumb to fill their own needs. They’re very, very cute in 4, but the dogs especially need SO MUCH care that it isn’t worth it. Never, ever adopt a dog with the loyal and friendly traits, because that combination really means “needy and co-dependent.” And never put a toilet bush on your lot, because your stupid pet will never stop attacking squirrels and getting squirrel scratch fever five times a day.
